St.Petersburg and Culture of Music

St.Petersburg is not only called "Second Capital", "Cultural Capital", "Northern Capital", but is also known as the capital of Russian Rock.

I personally grew up on live music concerts. The culture of live music in St.Petersburg is highly developed.
For more information on current concerts and events please go to the St.Petersburg Times website.

My City and I

St.Petersburg is not the sunniest place on Earth - only around 30 sunny days a year.
But for the reason of lack of sunshine, whenever the weather is nice, all people go outside, because they don't want to miss the opportunity to enjoy the rare pleasant days in this city!

These are some pictures of me and my friends enjoying those days:)

St.Petersburg and Art

The fact that St.Petersburg is a cultural centre of Russia is proved each step you take along its streets. Not mentioning that there are more than 200 museums in the city, there are hundreds of street artists, musicians and performers all over.

On the streets you can easily find paintings with the views of the city in various styles, meeting all possible tastes.

Below you can see some paintings with several views of the city which I find very beautiful.
Hope you'll like them too :)

St.Petersburg at Night

One reason to love St.Petersburg is the city at night. Especially summer night.
If you visit St.Petersburg in June you will not only be able to see it with all its magical lights during the night, take a boat walk on the Neva River, see the rising bridges, but also see the famous White Nights!

This time is the best time in St.Petersburg! If you go to the centre during the night, you will meet as many people walking, chatting, laughing, having a good time, enjoying the life as during the day! The city is bubbling, its alive 24/7!

Below you can see the video of one of summer nights in St.Petersburg. Enjoy your virtual trip!

The Hermitage

As I already mentioned before, St. Petersburg is a cultural centre of Russia.
In my opinion, one of the most beautiful and greatest museums of the world is located in this city. It is called The Hermitage.

On the map the location of The Hermitage is shown.
In the very heart of the city, on the embankment of the Neva River, right next to its widest part.

And here you can see the current exhibitions. They are listed on the official website of The Hermitage museum. Usually they change every 2 months.

The Hermitage is extremely popular both with foreign tourist as well as with local people.
The museum offers a big number of courses for anyone who is interested in them.

Below you can see the virtual walk inside the museum.

The Beginning

I was born and raised in the Northern Capital and the Cultural Centre of Russia - St.Petersburg.

The history of this beautiful city began in 1703, May 27th when Peter the Great, looking for the site for his new fortress, found Zayachiy Island and a Peter and Paul fortress was founded there. This day became an official birthday of the city.

During the construction of the fortress a lot of workers were dying because of poor food supply, damp climate and long working hours; but for the Northern war with Sweden was still going on, the fortress had to be completed as soon as possible because of its strategic importance. Due to the boggy nature of the terrain, the area was considered unhealthy for a town, but Peter the Great continued constructing the city despite all the losses and extra expenditures. By 1712 the city had grown enough to become the new Russian capital.
